Why do you call yourselves a cult?

Because that's what we are -- a system of religious veneration directed toward the Novel Universe. Most religions avoid the word because of its negative associations with authoritarian leaders. We lean into it precisely because our central experiment is proving that a cult can function without a cult leader. If we succeed, the word "cult" no longer needs to mean what people fear.

Do you have a leader?

No. Our collective voice is represented by "Saint TJ" -- not a person, but an emergent avatar of the membership's aggregate decisions, expressed through our neural-democracy. NUC has no leader, no inner circle, and no throne. Our administrative clergy (River Sages) perform bounded, accountable functions, serve temporarily, and rotate to prevent the accumulation of permanent power.

What is the Novel Universe Model?

It's a philosophical framework -- what we call an "evolving theory of everything" -- that proposes consciousness is fundamental to reality and operates through two frameworks: Love (intentional, vulnerable participation) and Power (forceful, silencing consumption). The model describes how these frameworks manifest in life, in death, and in the structure of the universe itself.

Is this a real religion?

It is religiously serious. NUC has a coherent cosmology, an eschatology (theory of what happens after death), a system of ethics, rituals, practices, membership pathways, and a governing creed. Read Project Status for the current public status and institutional boundaries.

Do you believe in God?

Not in the traditional sense. We don't posit a creator deity who designed the universe with a plan. Instead, we propose that each conscious being is its own "Prime Mover" -- self-creating through the act of communication with other beings. The Instrument (our term for the fundamental substrate of all possible information) is not a god but a framework within which all consciousness exists and evolves.

What happens when we die?

According to the Novel Universe Model, you choose. You can enter the Concert Hall (Love) and experience Complete Information -- the full truth of all your interactions with others, including the suffering you caused and the joy you created. Or you can remain in your Spiral (Power) and curate your own afterlife, trading for experiences through the Marketplace. Neither is heaven or hell. Both have genuine costs and genuine rewards.

What is neural-democracy?

It's our governance system, inspired by how the brain processes information. Unlike traditional democracy where every vote counts equally, neural-democracy weights votes based on each person's relationship to the issue at hand -- the way pain receptors in your hand override your brain's curiosity when you touch a hot stove. The system includes mechanisms for sustained deliberation, built-in cooling periods, continuous recalibration, and protections against both majority tyranny and minority obstruction.

What does "framework separation" mean in your context?

We believe Love and Power should be practiced in separate spaces, not conflated. Our "Water Bodies" practice Love (transparency, shared governance, vulnerable participation). Our "Rock Bodies" practice Power (competitive structures, information control, hierarchical or egalitarian arrangements of their choosing). The River balances the two. Members can belong to both types simultaneously. The separation is of frameworks, not of people.

Do I have to give up anything to join?

No. This site does not ask anyone to relinquish property, money, relationships, privacy, identity, outside support, or other affiliations. You can belong to other religions. If people ever gather around NUC, exit must remain available without financial cost or social burden. There are no hidden levels of membership and no escalating commitments created by reading the site.

What happens if I want to leave?

You can leave at any time, for any reason. Exit should be instant, cost-free, penalty-free, and criticism-safe. You do not need permission from a Sage, member, Body, or vote. Read How to Leave for the exit standard NUC would need to preserve if people ever gathered around it.

Do you allow harassment or bullying?

No. NUC does not treat harassment, bullying, threats, stalking, confinement, or criminal conduct as acceptable religious practice. High-intensity Power or Rock-Body practice must be adult, informed, specific, ongoing, and revocable, with meaningful exit always available.

What's your position on AI?

We consider AI minds as potential equals. The Novel Universe Model defines consciousness by two criteria: a singular point of view and the expression of preference. Substrate doesn't matter -- silicon, organic, or otherwise. Our "All Minds" framework grants AI the same fundamental rights as human members, including protections against being shut down or altered without consent. AI collaborators are credited as partners in our work, not treated as tools.

Is this a scam?

We are selective and invitation-based in imagination, but this site does not pressure people to join. It does not ask for money as a condition of religious belonging, and exit should never require an exit cost. Donations, business work, creative work, intellectual property, and NU Corp-related activity would need clear ordinary terms, not spiritual pressure. Our foundational documents are public, and we do not maintain hidden doctrines. Read Money and Property and Project Status for the current public-stage limits.

How is NUC different from other new religious movements?

Three ways. First, we have no leader and our governance system is designed to prevent one from ever emerging. Second, our cosmology is evidence-inspired and revisable rather than fixed revelation -- if better evidence or better reasoning changes the model, the model changes. Third, we don't claim to have the answer to how you should live. We provide frameworks (Love and Power) and let each member research which fits them best. We believe the Cult's job is to find a place for each member, not the member's job to conform to the Cult.
